Customized Curriculum and Instruction

I’m happy to work with each individual or group to design a curriculum tailored to their interests and further their inquiry mindset. I have active profiles on both Wyzant and Outschool, but if you’ve made it this far let’s work directly together. From online lessons to in-person science-themed birthday parties and everything in between, let’s have a conversation to get things started.

Pre-K-5 General Education

Reading, Writing & Social Studies

Establishing strong foundational skills in literacy is vital for lifelong academic success. Teaching children to read and write is one of the true joys in education. Starting with letter recognition and phonics, through blends and homonyms, children learn best when engaged playfully and with optimism in their capacities to learn. Social studies is the natural partner to literacy, as the true stories of our past are often the most interesting and engaging. Bringing history to life through reading and dialogue is a skill I have honed over my many years in the classroom.

Math & Science

From basic number sense to operational fluency, math helps children make sense of their world. Through a variety of hands-on techniques and games, students can build the skills necessary to feel confident as mathematicians. Science is the process of understanding how math applies to the real world around us. In other words, math is the language of science. My pedagogy has always been rooted in inquiry, and teaching science provides the perfect platform for that exploration.

6-12 Math and Science

Algebra & Geometry

Taking students out of the pre-algebra numeracy and operational skills and helping them move into the conceptual and pragmatic world of algebra and geometry is a relative strength of mine. Algebra is the time when students often become despondent towards math and disengage. I believe that with the right support, just the opposite can be true. This content matter provides an opportunity for kids to persevere and make connections in their understanding of their world. In turn, this develops confidence and a drive to continue learning and growing.

General Science

The process of inquiry and data analysis is a simple and time-proven method for solving complex problems. By helping students learn to investigate and test hypotheses, we can enable them to become more critical thinkers and engaged participants in their environment.

Earth Science

Earth Science has always been my favorite subject to teach. Space has held my attention since childhood, and learning about the relationships between stars, planets, and the moon and their connection to us here on Earth thrills me. I also think that understanding geological time scales is humbling and comforting, as it provides reassurance that nothing is truly permanent. Not even rock.

Biology and Chemistry

Biology and Chemistry both provide the opportunity for us to make sense of the world around us. Chemistry through the study of chemical reactions to develop an understanding that we are all connected down to the atomic level of our DNA. Biology, through the study of living organisms, reveals the miracle that life truly is and how we are all part of a larger cycle. Through this lens of wonder, I have often helped students find value in, and make sense of, the details.

Mission

Our mission is to empower learners to set and achieve ambitious goals, cultivate empowering habits, and foster resilience while embracing growth as a lifelong journey.
